Debt Meat

In May 2026 I appeared in a new writing horror play at The Drayton Arms Theatre.

"Debt Meat", written and directed by Benji Edward, imagined a dystopian society where flesh has become currency, literally.

As the sinister "Friend" I filled the role of the flesh collector. As a fully indoctrinated and somewhat inhuman member of this cultish society, I was heavily inspired by George Orwell's "1984" and tried to incorporate much of the malevolence of the Ministry of Love and their feverish devotion and unsettling enjoyment of their work. I must admit I was pleased to hear the gasps when I first revealed my rictus grin.

"Alex McKeown is another highlight in his role as a Royal Mince dogsbody. He is every inch the dead-eyed debt collector, and I enjoyed watching him in his role, as he carried out his work with chilly smiles and clipped tones. It’s clear he enjoys the role as well, and it transfers into his first-rate performance."
